Founded in 1973 as the Organization of Chinese Americans, OCA, a national organization with over 80 chapters and affiliates across the country, is dedicated to advancing the social, economic, and political well-being of Asian Pacific Americans in the United States. To fulfill its mission, OCA has established the following goals: -to advocate for social justice, equal opportunity and fair treatment; -to promote civic participation, education, and leadership; -to advance coalitions and community building; -and to foster cultural heritage. OCA aims to embrace the hopes and aspirations of nearly 13 million Asian Pacific Americans in the United States. OCA is engaged in organizing its over 80 chapters and affiliates across the nation to develop both leadership and community involvement. About the OCA - Greater Philadelphia Chapter The OCA - Greater Philadelphia (OCA-GP) chapter serves the five Pennsylvania counties of Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia and the four New Jersey counties of Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Mercer. We are an organization with members from all walks of life. We are families, young professionals, entrepreneurs, retirees, and students. We are all brought together because of the goals and aspirations that we share. There are many different Asian Pacific American organizations in the Philadelphia area, but what separates OCA-GP from the rest of them is our national perspective (OCA has a national office in Washington, DC which advocates for issues that affect all Asian Pacific Americans). In addition, we have a focus that crosses ethnic barriers, and as such an e-newsletter is full of events & programs from all around the Greater Philadelphia region. Finally, by giving members the other Community leaders making an impact on the issues that affect our lives, we provide a tremendous opportunity for leadership and personal development.
